Motueka T90 hop pellets are one of New Zealand's most popular modern hop varieties, renowned for their bright lime, lemon, citrus and tropical fruit character.

Our Motueka T90 hops are particularly well suited to Pale Ale, IPA, NEIPA, Hazy IPA, New Zealand IPA, Pilsner and Lager, where its fresh citrus character can really shine.

Motueka Hop Flavour & Aroma

Motueka has a wonderfully bright and refreshing hop profile. Its defining characteristic is fresh lime and lemon, backed up by tropical fruit and subtle herbal notes.

Depending on how you use it, you can expect a combination of:

• Fresh lime
• Lemon and citrus
• Tropical fruit
• Passionfruit
• Stone fruit
• Herbal and floral notes

Used generously in late additions, whirlpool hopping or dry hopping, Motueka can produce a bright, juicy citrus aroma that works particularly well in modern Pale Ales and IPAs.

How to Use Motueka T90 Hop Pellets

Motueka T90 pellets are incredibly versatile and can be used for bittering, flavour and aroma.

However, if you want to showcase the distinctive lime and citrus character of Motueka, later additions are particularly effective.

Late Kettle Additions

Late kettle additions of Motueka can provide flavour, aroma and some bitterness.

Adding Motueka during the final 5–15 minutes of the boil can bring out its lime, lemon, citrus and tropical fruit character.

For a modern Pale Ale, try combining a small late-kettle addition with a generous whirlpool addition. This gives you plenty of citrus hop flavour while allowing the fresh lime character to remain prominent.

If maximum aroma is your goal, reserve some Motueka for the dry hop as well.

Whirlpool / Hop Stand

Adding Motueka to the whirlpool or hop stand is an excellent way of extracting its fresh lime, lemon and tropical fruit character while keeping the bitterness contribution relatively controlled.

A generous whirlpool addition can produce a wonderfully bright citrus profile in Pale Ales, IPAs and NEIPAs.

Motueka is also particularly interesting in lighter beers such as Pilsners and Lagers, where its fresh lime and lemon character can add another dimension without overwhelming the malt and yeast.

For a modern New Zealand-style Pale Ale, a large whirlpool addition of Motueka can give you an intensely refreshing citrus character.

Dry Hopping

Motueka is an excellent dry-hopping hop, particularly when you want fresh citrus rather than heavy resin or dank character.

Adding Motueka T90 pellets during or during or after fermentation can produce aromas of lime, lemon, tropical fruit and passionfruit, giving the beer a bright and refreshing character.

Try Motueka on its own for a single-hop Pale Ale or IPA, or combine it with other varieties to build a more complex hop profile.

Motueka works particularly well alongside Nelson Sauvin, Nectaron, Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo.

Pairing Motueka with Nelson Sauvin, for example, combines Motueka's fresh lime and citrus character with Nelson's distinctive white grape and gooseberry notes.
