Caledonian Deuchars IPA Tribute All Grain Recipe Kit
Caledonian Deuchars IPA Tribute All Grain Recipe Kit
Bring a taste of Edinburgh to your home brewery with our Caledonian Deuchars IPA Tribute All Grain Recipe Kit.
This classic Scottish session ale is a beautifully balanced beer that combines a rich malt character with distinctive British hop flavour. At 3.8% ABV, it's packed with flavour without being too heavy, making it exactly the sort of beer you can happily enjoy pint after pint.
Our Deuchars IPA tribute recipe is based on the recipe published in Graham Wheeler's Brew Your Own British Real Ales, and has been adapted into a straightforward 23 litre all grain beer kit for the home brewer.
Expect a refreshing amber-coloured beer with a satisfying malt backbone, noticeable hop character and a lingering, pleasantly bitter finish. The Fuggle and Styrian Golding hops bring earthy, herbal and lightly fruity notes, while the Maris Otter and Crystal malt provide the depth needed to keep everything nicely balanced.
In other words, it's a proper session IPA — flavourful enough to keep the brewer interested, but dangerously easy to drink!

All the grains are supplied pre-crushed and ready for mashing.
The Recipe
-
Maris Otter
Provides the rich, slightly biscuity malt foundation typical of traditional British ales. -
Crystal Malt
Adds colour, body and a touch of caramel malt character. -
Wheat Malt
Helps with head retention and contributes to the body of the finished beer. -
Fuggle Hops
A quintessential British hop, bringing earthy, woody and gently herbal character. -
Styrian Golding Hops
Adds a subtle fruity, floral and spicy hop character that works beautifully alongside Fuggle. -
Protofloc – 1 tablet
Helps produce a clearer finished beer.
Choose Your Yeast
One of the great things about this Deuchars IPA tribute kit is that you can choose the yeast character you want.
Scottish Ale Yeast
For the brewer looking to get closer to the character of a traditional Scottish brewery fermentation, choose our Scottish Ale Yeast.
This yeast has close links to Edinburgh brewing and gives the beer a characterful fermentation profile that complements the malt and traditional British hops beautifully.
Safale S-04
Prefer a familiar English ale yeast? Choose Safale S-04 for a reliable, clean and well-established fermentation profile that works particularly well in traditional British ales.
Your choice of yeast can subtly change the character of the finished beer, so why not brew the kit twice and see which version you prefer?

A Classic Scottish Beer for the Home Brewer
If you've enjoyed a pint of Caledonian Deuchars IPA, this is your chance to put your own version on the bar.
It's also a great choice if you're looking for a Scottish all grain beer kit, a traditional British IPA recipe, or simply a well-balanced session beer with plenty of character.
The combination of Maris Otter, Crystal and Wheat malt with Fuggle and Styrian Golding hops gives this recipe a distinctly traditional British feel, while the choice of Scottish Ale Yeast gives you the opportunity to add an extra layer of authenticity straight from the breweries of Edinburgh.
Whether you're an experienced all grain brewer or simply looking for your next interesting brew, this is a recipe that's well worth having in the brewery.
And let's be honest — a 3.8% IPA that still manages to deliver plenty of hop character is a pretty useful beer to have in the fridge.
