Brewers Gold is a classic dual-purpose hop with a fascinating history and a distinctive fruity, spicy character. Originally developed at Wye College in England in 1919, it was one of the pioneering varieties that helped shape the development of modern bittering hops.

Although British in its breeding origins, Brewers Gold is now predominantly grown in mainland Europe. It offers blackcurrant, dark hedgerow fruit and subtle citrus notes, accompanied by a pleasant spiciness and a slightly resinous character.

Traditionally valued for its bittering qualities, Brewers Gold can also bring plenty of flavour when used later in the boil. Its fruity, spicy character works particularly well in traditional British ales, porters and stouts, while its versatility also makes it useful in continental beer styles.
