Bobek (Styrian Goldings) T90 Hop Pellets

Bobek (Styrian Goldings) T90 Hop Pellets

Bobek is a traditional Slovenian aroma hop, often sold under the Styrian Goldings name. Developed from Northern Brewer ancestry, it offers a delicate balance of floral, herbal and spicy characteristics that have made Slovenian hops a favourite among brewers of British and European ales.

Expect gentle floral aromas, fresh herbs, subtle pine and a touch of lemon and peppery spice. Bobek has a pleasantly rounded character, bringing enough hop flavour to complement the malt without overwhelming the finished beer.

Although particularly popular in traditional British bitters and golden ales, Bobek is equally at home in pale ales, Belgian-style beers and lighter European lagers. Its relatively low alpha acid content makes it especially appealing for late boil additions, where its delicate aroma can shine, although it can also provide a gentle bitterness earlier in the boil.

Hop Pairings

Bobek works beautifully alongside East Kent Goldings, combining the delicate floral and spicy qualities of two traditional European aroma hops. It's a particularly appealing combination for a classic British bitter.

Fuggle is another excellent companion, adding earthy and woody notes that complement Bobek's gentle herbal character.

For something a little different, try pairing Bobek with Challenger, using Challenger for a balanced bitterness and Bobek towards the end of the boil for a more delicate floral finish.

Bobek is also well worth exploring as a single-hop golden ale, allowing its traditional Styrian character to take centre stage.
