Black Sheep Riggwelter Tribute All Grain Kit

Fancy brewing something with a bit more weight and character? Our Black Sheep Riggwelter Tribute All Grain Kit recreates this famous Yorkshire dark ale, based on the recipe from Graham Wheeler’s Brew Your Own British Real Ales.

Riggwelter is a proper Yorkshire ale. Dark ruby in colour and warming at around 6% ABV, it brings together rich toasted and roasted malt flavours with chocolate, coffee and dark fruit character. English hops add a firm, earthy bitterness, while the combination of malt and traditional ale yeast gives the beer plenty of depth without making it heavy or sweet.

The name is Yorkshire through and through. Riggwelter is a local farming term for a sheep that has rolled onto its back and can't get upright again. Fortunately, this beer is considerably easier to handle.

This Grain Over Sands recipe is our tribute to that classic — a dark, warming British ale that makes a great winter pint but is far too good to save just for the cold months.
