Fancy brewing a proper Yorkshire pint? Our Black Sheep Ale Tribute All Grain Recipe Kit is based on the classic amber ale from Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire.

This is a full-flavoured British bitter with a rich malt character, gentle fruitiness and satisfying hop bitterness. Expect a combination of biscuity malt, subtle dark fruit and earthy, slightly spicy English hop character, finishing dry and bitter enough to make you reach for another pint.

The recipe is based on the version in Graham Wheeler's Brew Your Own British Real Ales and is designed to produce 23 litres of home-brewed Black Sheep Ale-inspired beer.

A Little Bit of Black Sheep History

Black Sheep Brewery was founded in Masham in 1992 by Paul Theakston, who struck out on his own after leaving the family brewing business. The brewery's first brew was its Best Bitter, and Black Sheep went on to build its reputation around traditional Yorkshire cask brewing.

Our recipe takes inspiration from that classic Yorkshire approach, using a traditional British malt bill alongside Challenger, Progress, Fuggle and East Kent Goldings hops.
