Alora T90 Hop Pellets – US Hops
Alora T90 hop pellets are a relatively new American hop variety with a wonderfully distinctive combination of peach, apricot, sweet melon and yuzu.
Formerly known as HS17701, Alora™ was developed through the Hopsteiner breeding programme and is one of the more unusual modern US hop varieties available to home brewers. Unlike many newer hops that lean heavily towards big tropical fruit, Alora offers a more delicate combination of stone fruit, melon and bright citrus.
Alora is particularly interesting in Pale Ale, IPA, NEIPA, Hazy IPA, Lager and other modern beers, where its unusual fruit character can be allowed to shine.
If you're looking for something a little different from the usual Citra and Mosaic combinations, Alora is a hop worth experimenting with.
Alora Hop Flavour & Aroma
Alora has a distinctive fruit-forward profile that combines stone fruit, melon and citrus rather than relying on one dominant tropical characteristic.
Depending on how you use it, you can expect a combination of:
- Apricot
- Peach
- Sweet melon
- Yuzu
- Citrus
- Tropical fruit
The combination of peach, apricot and sweet melon gives Alora a softer fruit character, while yuzu brings a bright citrus edge.
That makes it particularly interesting for brewers who want plenty of hop character without automatically heading towards the familiar grapefruit, mango and passionfruit profile found in many modern American varieties.
How to Use Alora T90 Hop Pellets
Alora T90 pellets can be used for bittering, flavour and aroma, although its unusual character is particularly well suited to later additions.
Late Kettle Additions
Late additions of Alora can provide flavour and aroma alongside some bitterness.
Adding Alora during the final 5–15 minutes of the boil can bring out its peach, apricot, melon and citrus character.
For a Pale Ale or IPA, a late addition can give the beer a noticeable fruit character without making the hop profile overly aggressive.
Whirlpool / Hop Stand
The whirlpool is a particularly good place to experiment with Alora.
Adding Alora to the whirlpool or hop stand allows you to extract plenty of its stone-fruit, melon and citrus character while keeping the bitterness contribution relatively controlled.
This makes it an interesting choice for Pale Ales, IPAs and NEIPAs, but it can also work surprisingly well in lighter beers where its more delicate fruit character can take centre stage.
Dry Hopping
Alora is well suited to dry hopping, particularly if you want to explore its unusual aroma rather than simply use it as a bittering hop.
Dry hopping can bring forward the peach, apricot, sweet melon and yuzu character, giving the finished beer a fresh and distinctive aroma.
Try Alora on its own for a single-hop Pale Ale, or combine it with other varieties to build something more complex.
Because Alora is less familiar than hops such as Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe, a single-hop beer is a great way to find out exactly what this variety can do.

Brewing with Alora Hops
Alora is a hop that rewards a little experimentation.
Want to brew a single-hop Alora Pale Ale? This is probably one of the best ways to discover what makes the variety different.
Want to build a modern Alora IPA or NEIPA? Use it in the whirlpool and dry hop to bring out its peach, melon and citrus character.
Or use Alora alongside more familiar varieties to add something unexpected to a hop blend.
Alora could work particularly well with Citra or Mosaic, where its peach and melon character can sit alongside bigger citrus and tropical flavours.
It would also be interesting alongside Nectaron, combining Alora's peach, apricot and melon with Nectaron's pineapple and passionfruit.
For something more unusual, pairing Alora with Motueka could create a bright combination of peach, melon and fresh lime.
What Makes Alora Different?
One of the genuinely interesting things about Alora is its unusual hop oil composition.
Alora contains a notably high proportion of an oil component called selinene, a compound rarely found in hops. Hopsteiner identifies this unusual chemistry as one of the reasons for Alora's distinctive flavour and aroma profile. The variety also contains elevated levels of bound 3MH thiol precursors, which can contribute additional tropical and citrus character in beer.
You don't need to understand the chemistry to enjoy the hop, of course.
The important bit for the brewer is that Alora doesn't simply taste like another version of an existing American hop.
It offers something different.
Peach. Apricot. Sweet melon. Yuzu.
That's what makes it particularly interesting for home brewers who like trying hops that are a little outside the mainstream.

If you're looking for a less familiar American hop to experiment with, Alora T90 hop pellets are well worth trying.
With its distinctive combination of peach, apricot, sweet melon and yuzu, Alora offers something quite different from the big tropical and citrus profiles of the better-known modern US varieties.
Use it in the late kettle, whirlpool or dry hop, or brew a single-hop beer and see what this unusual variety can do.
Peach. Apricot. Sweet melon. Yuzu. Alora is a little different — and that's exactly why we like it.
